#GoldenGlobes Fashion, Make it Work for You

This year’s Golden Globes saw plenty of stunning looks to be inspired by — even some of the misses — because it’s all about making fashion work for you! Here’s some easy ways to do just that, without breaking the bank!

Cate Blanchett won more than a Golden Globe last night — she was probably everyone’s pick for best dressed on the red carpet.  She looked stunning, elegant and timeless in an Armani floor-length, black, lace and textured gown, with an exquisite open back. She was the picture of Hollywood glamour!

If there’s one thing to take away here, it’s that on a big night, this is the way to go. And that’s exactly what I did recently in a structured dress from Sonya’s Clothing in Cranston.  I also showed off a floor-length and beaded gown from Sonya’s in a live fashion segment on The Rhode Show. Allison Williams was a red carpet ‘best’ last night in a feathered Alexander McQueen frock.  If you look closely, it almost looks like a 2-piece outfit.

To easily copy a look like this — wear a dress in a monochromatic print like this one from ASOS Collection, under a long black skirt like this one from American Apparel.

Olivia Wilde looked gorgeous in green! While her’s was like liquid metal and full length, that style is so flattering. I actually had to do a double take to find her baby bump! Hands down, this is a red carpet dress, but a toned-down version doesn’t have to be limited to big events like this.

I love this ribbed midi-dress in dark green from Zara. Dress it up, dress it down; Wear it with a vest or even wear it under a skirt (like the idea above).

Simple color blocking made a strong showing at the Globes! Even though Sandra Bullock’s Prabal Gurung tricolor dress had mixed reviews, this is one trend that can both make a statement and flatter anyone.

What I love about this Banana Republic black and cobalt blue dress is that it’s not only a versatile look for a variety of occassions, but it’s simple enough to allow you to have fun with the shoes!

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper were so handsome in their black bow ties and a classic tuxedo is the official evening-wear for black tie events.

Suit Supply is where I’ve recommended many men to check out because this company delivers quality and fit at a very affordable price.

And speaking of menswear — Diane Keaton wore her uniform suit to accept an award on behalf of her friend Woody Allen. While many of us women wouldn’t dream of pulling off a look like this, we do love menswear-inspired pieces!

Anthropologie always has the best necklaces and this bow-tie one is so…. cool. A statement piece like this, that’s very masculine, works great with an outfit that’s contrasting, so I’d wear it with something sleek and feminine like this elegant top from Ann Taylor.
