The Good Kind of Pain

I’m not usually the class-taking kind, but I’ll try anything once — or in this case, twice! My bff told me about the classes she takes at Physique57 on Spring Street in Manhattan and suggested I try it out.

I’ll admit, at first I said no thanks, you know me ;). But then she said that the barre classes truly help sculpt your body and that you see results pretty quickly. Instant gratification? Alright, I’m in!

So, I took my first class with her and maybe it’s like a placebo effect, but 2 days later I felt different… Like, my body felt more toned and I felt healthier! That was one reason I (actually) wanted a second go at it… Another reason? To feel like I really got the hang of it.

You know when you first take a class and you’re not sure if you should hold a certain pose for too long — even if you could push yourself — because you don’t know if the next move is going to be too intense to manage!?! Well, I was kicking myself for not pushing if the next move was just a stretch!

I just finished class two and it was awesome! Of course I’m saying this *after* class ended, as the hot-as-fire feeling in my legs is gone and I no longer feel like Gumbie… But, I definitely felt more familiar in what to expect and comfortable as a whole.

Plus, today’s instructor, Rachel played GREAT jams and was a really motivating coach. She pushed us to feel the ‘good kind of pain,’ as she put it.  And I took her word for it because I can’t wait to feel the same way I did after my first class!

UPDATE: 2.13.2014 After my 2nd class, I DID feel and see a difference! Not only that, it felt great knowing that I went outside of my comfort zone signing up, but then kicked butt at it! Twice! Sure, for those days after I’d go to take a seat or move a certain way, then moan out loud because of some pain — buuuut it’s the ‘good kind of pain’ after all! And I kinda cannot believe I’m saying this, but I am signing up for another class!
